Nioxin for Women

Realizing that your hair is beginning to look thinner or noticing that there's more hair in your brush and on your pillows can be devastating. For most women, denial is the first response. They may rationalize that the situation is temporary - brought on by stress or other situations and it will soon stop. Many women hide the problem from everyone, including close friends and family members. But the first step to getting fuller, healthier-looking hair is to...fight it. Don't ignore it!

Know that millions of women like you are facing the same problem. Gather the facts on thinning hair and discuss the situation with your stylist. If you have any health-related concerns contact your physician as soon as possible.

THE LIFE CYCLE OF YOUR HAIR

The maturation of a hair happens in three cycles - the Anagen cycle, or that phase in which the hair is actually growing; the Catagen cycle, or the intermediate phase of hair growth when the lower two-thirds of the hair follicle is destroyed; and the Telogen cycle, or that phase when hair growth is resting. At any given time, about 85 to 90 percent of your scalp hair is in the anagen or growing phase. Less than 1 percent is in the catagen phase. And, the remaining 13 percent of the scalp hair is in the telogen or resting phase. Certain factors can rush the growing hair into the telogen phase prematurely, resulting in noticeably thin-looking hair and eventually low hair density. Following the telogen phase, it takes about 3 weeks for the follicle to produce a new anagen hair.

NORMAL v. EXCESSIVE HAIR SHEDDING

Some loss or shedding of hair every day is normal. The average person has 150,000 to 200,000 hairs on their scalp. Blondes generally have the most number of hairs, followed by brunettes and then redheads. Conventional wisdom has indicated that the loss of 100 to 125 hairs a day is normal. However, recent research has shown that when cleansing daily, a loss of more than 50 hairs per day may be excessive for someone who has thin-looking hair.

SIX CAUSES OF THINNING HAIR

Now, please understand that the subject of the causes for thinning hair is complex and multi-faceted, although the outcome is simple - loss of confidence, a feeling of confusion as to what's causing thinning hair and feeling you're helpless to deal with the problem. Nioxin has identified the top six reasons why your hair may be thinning

The problem of thinning hair may be caused by a genetic predisposition that comes from a family history of thinning hair. Health problems such as Hyperthyroid or Hypothyroid conditions; medications such as chemotherapy, any hormone replacement medications including birth control pills are culprits often overlooked. Thinning hair can also be attributed to stress and trauma that can cause constriction of blood supply and poor vitamin assimilation to the scalp and hair. Or, simply from poor nutrition and diet that can include a high consumption of animal fat, high protein and fad diets. Even external environmental toxins and pollutants, such as chlorine, metals, minerals and water pollution cannot be ignored. All these factors can be causing the increased number of hairs in your brush. Nioxin offers a complete, natural hair care system that addresses the appearance of thinning hair.

ADDRESS YOUR HAIR PROBLEM

Make no mistake about it. If you battle fine or noticeably thin-looking hair, you are not alone. Some 30 million women are in your shoes. That number will increase by 4 million in the next decade. The problem will grow more extreme as our population ages. By age 65, 48% of all women report they have noticeably thin-looking hair.

The best way to deal with this growing problem is to start at the root (non-pun intended). Find out the source of your problem and use natural products that best fit your hair care needs.
